Young Writers Workshop

CELEBRATING LIFE'S MIRACLES

SUBJECTS: Language, Arts and Religion
GRADE LEVELS: All

OBJECTIVES:
Students will write a short story from an actual event.
Students will learn to look for God’s actions in their lives.

TIME: Two class periods (30-45 minutes each)

MATERIALS:
Kids Explore America’s Catholic Heritage Books
Paper and pencils

ACTIVITIES:
1. Discuss the definition of a miracle.
2. Read and discuss pages 98 -100 in the Catholic Book.
3. The teacher could model by sharing a miracle that happened to them or someone he/she knows.
4. Ask kids to share some of their experiences they think are miracles.
5. Have students write a short story about a miracle. They could use the miracles in this chapter of the book, a story from their family or something that happened to them.

EXTENSION: These stories could be included in the student’s heritage scrapbook mentioned in another lesson plan on the web site.
