SUBJECT: Art and Religion
GRADE LEVEL(S): 3rd grade up
OBJECTIVES:
To help children understand why they use Holy
Water.
To develop a greater appreciation for Holy Water.
TIME: one class period a minimum of 35 minutes
TEACHER MATERIA(S):
Kids Explore Americas Catholic Heritage
pgs. 163-164.
MATERIALS (per child):
a container or jar with a lid(any size)
paint(any color you choose- puff paint works
well)
decorations such as fabric paint, buttons, stickers,
spray paint, enamel, or fabric
symbols such as angels, doves, peace signs,
shamrocks, crosses, candles, or fish.
glue
ACTIVITIES:
Share background material from Kids Explore
page 163.
Paint your container or jar but be careful!
The paint may be hard to control.
Decorate with the items mentioned above and/or
others you choose,
Let the paint dry for a few hours or overnight.
Take your container/jar to church and get some
holy water.
NOTES: If for some reason you no longer
want the holy water, put it onto the ground
or bury it. Do not pour it into the sink, which
will take it into the sewer.
