RESEARCHING BIOGRAPHIES OF FAMOUS AMERICAN CATHOLICS

SUBJECTS: Writing, Reading, Religion, Colonial American History, Early Church History (1 A.D.-1095 A.D.), Immigration, Biographies

GRADE LEVELS: 4th-8th

OBJECTIVE: Student will gain a better knowledge of important people in Church history

TIME: One 45-minute class period, three days homework for research and writing

MATERIALS: Kids Explore America’s Catholic Heritage - pages 1-37

ACTIVITIES: 1. Survey the chapter as a class.
Discuss main parts.
Each student will pick a topic of interest and read the appropriate section in the chapter.
As homework students will research about their topic of interest.
As homework students will write a paragraph, article or essay. Teacher will determine the grade appropriate length.
Options - Teacher may assign a cover page with a drawing.

EXTENSION: In addition to the above activities, the teacher may choose to have students present their articles or essays orally. Don’t forget to allow two additional 45-minute periods for the presentations.
