Jesus Christ started the church when he was on earth by appointing Peter to head the Church in 33 A.D. and · The Council of Constantinople in 382 A. D. put the New Testament together. Since the time of Christ, Catholics used His letters and teachings for instruction in the Church. At the Council of Constantinople, the Catholic Church compiled this material into the New Testament.
