POETIC THOUGHTS ON SACRAMENTS

SUBJECTS: Religion and Language Arts
GRADE LEVELS: 4-8

OBJECTIVES:
Students will increase their knowledge of sacraments.
Students will learn about writing poetry.
Students will learn to share their faith.

TIME: A 30-minute class period

MATERIALS:
Kid’s Explore America’s Catholic Heritage
Paper and pencils

ACTIVITIES:
1. Have student’s read chapter “Growing Up Catholic” pages 53-75 in Kids Discover America’s Catholic Heritage.
2. Spend some time sharing personal experiences of the sacraments.
3. Ask, What do you remember about your First communion? Reconciliation? Have you attended a baptism? A marriage ceremony? What do you remember about it? How did God touch your life through the sacrament?
4. Choose one sacrament you have received. Write a poem expressing your thoughts and feelings about this sacrament. (Poems can be acrostic, rhyme, free verse)

EXTENSION:
Write a narrative paragraph or make a drawing or collage of this sacrament
