OBJECTIVES:
Students will compare and contrast types of
clothing.
Student will learn more about appropriate dress
for religious occasions.
TIME: Will vary by grade levels and scope
of assignment.
MATERIALS:
Kids Explore Americas Catholic Heritage
and other reference material such as religious
books magazines and newspapers
Poster board and materials to make posters
Scraps of cloth, trims, glue, magazines, etc.
for to make paper dolls
ACTIVITIES:
Read Growing Up Catholic pages 53-75
in Kids Discover Americas Catholic
Heritage and discuss attire they notice worn
in the illustrations.
Research attire worn by the celebrant and participants
for each of the sacraments using the Internet
and reference books. (reference p. 80 in Growing
Up Catholic)
Create posters or paper dolls depicting proper
clothing for participants and celebrants.
Discuss meaning of liturgical colors worn by
priests for each of the sacraments.
EXTENDED ACTIVITIES:
Interview a priest or deacon about the color
of the alb, the stole, the cincture and the
chasuble.
Write a diagram showing each of these items.
Make a collage of pictures/photos students collect
showing proper depictions of dress.
Write a personal story about one sacrament they
received and what they chose to wear.
Interview someone who designs and sews priestly
garb.
